Steps on how to become a more ________ person: Step 1. Start from where you are. Winston Churchill is known for his leadership as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II, his resolute determination, and famous inspiring speeches. What Churchill is lesser known for is his terrible stutter. One journalist even went as far as saying, “Churchill was more often fighting himself than his enemies.” He started working on his speech impediment in his youth and his relentless efforts to improve included practicing pronunciation, breathing exercises, and looking for opportunities for public speaking. This persistence played a crucial role in developing the powerful oratory skills he would later become famous for.
What if instead we used that energy to face the problem head on? What if to have patience, the answer is sitting in discomfort for extended periods of time? To become smart, what if you simply to have to make foolish mistakes and learn from them (pro tip: reading and learning from the mistakes of others helps expedite this process)? To become strong, what if you just have to start weak and trust the process? If your goal is to become better, is it fair to expect some level of adversity? If so, would it make sense to embrace it? Good news… You’re getting better all the time ;) |
